LIBRARY POLICIES

I.     STUDENT USE OF THE LIBRARY

1.  Students may come into the library to browse and check out books during all class periods as long as they have a pass from their teacher.  Students may check out up to three books at a time and keep them for a period of two weeks.  Books can be rechecked two times.  Students are expected to keep checked out items up to date.
          2.  Fines will not be charged for books that are overdue on a daily basis during the six weeks.  At the end of each six weeks grading period any student with an overdue book will have their report card held until the book is turned in or rechecked.  A fine of 25 cents will be assessed for each overdue book at that time.
          3.  No gum, food, or candy is to be consumed in the library.

II.    FACULTY USE OF THE LIBRARY

      A.  Equipment

           1.  Each television and VCR set will be checked out for the year to two teachers who will arrange a usage schedule between them.. An extra television is available in the library for temporary (one to two days ) use.
           2.  An overhead projector and cart will be available to each teacher for the entire year.  If there is not a set available for each teacher that wants one, the library will order as many needed to fulfill requests.
           3.  Other items, such as tape players or pocket scan converters are available for checkout on a temporary basis.
           4.  At the end of the year, teachers will return these items
cleaned and dusted.

      B.  Circulating Items

           1.  Books, videos, and CD-ROMs are available for check out for a
two week period.  These items are due back so that they can become available for other teachers to use.  (The exception to this rule is the departmental sets that are available on a long-term basis only to the particular department for which they were ordered.)
           2.  Teachers are responsible for the replacement of lost circulating items.

       C.   Reserving the Library

A reservation folder in the library is available to reserve the library for class use.  Teachers must consult with the librarian before reserving the library in order to allow adequate time to make preparations for the class visit.  Only one class can reserve the library at a time.

        D.   Student use of the library during the school day.

Students may come into the library to browse and check out books during all class periods as long as they have a pass from their teacher.
Unless you have cleared this with the librarian first, allow only two students from a class at a time. (There is some flexibility here as long as the librarian is informed ahead of time.) This is especially important during times when the library is being used for research projects.

         E.   Ordering Materials for the Library

The purpose of the library is to support the curriculum of the school and to teach students to develop information-gathering skills.  To that end, the library will make every effort to collect any materials deemed necessary to enhance the curriculum.. Teachers that have requests for specific or general materials should consult with the librarian early in the year to make sure that money is budgeted for their needs.

Note:  We have now purchased a copyright agreement that allows the use of the Channel 1 TV's to broadcast movies throughout the school, or to particular classrooms.  Contact the library for info.
